Warning: This information contains spoilers and should only be read after watching the TV series.

This speculation/explantion is from Takao who has been a great help to me in explaining the series and finding me nifty things about it. Thank you so much! ^^

Yukito as a Crow

Well, in that story, it works.

First of all, I think every "reincarnation cycle" in the story is quite different from the reincarnation we know... The cycle we saw in AIR doesn't go along a single time line...it means that the soul released from a body is free to go anywhere it wants.....no matter where it is or "when" it is...

In episode 9, Yukito realizes what his true feeling is... "I just want to be with you and see you smiling, Misuzu...So please, please smile..." And he wishes that he could start everything over again to stay beside her and make her happy ...The wish is realized by the "power" inside the little doll, and his soul becomes a part of a crow named "Sora (sky)". Apparently, the "power" of the doll is a composition of everyone's wish who were trying to help "The girl in the sky."

For 1000 years, those people who were descended from Uraha and Ryuuya were filling the doll with their wish in exchange for their life...

"The girl in the sky" watches a dream, the dream about the past memory, the memory of other girls who were "The girl in the sky" before...

As the memory in the dream tracing back to the past more and more, the girl gets weaker and weaker, and once she finish watching the memory of the first "The girl in the sky," her life will be lost...

The first "Girl in the sky" (who did not appear in the show) was not a human but a "Yokuzinn " (the people of wings). In episode 12, Misuzu said that she watched a sad dream of flying in the sky with "a dinosaur with wings" (probably a Pteranodon or something), and I think that was the memory of the first "Girl in the sky." So why is the memory so sad?? This is my guess, but I think that the first "Girl in the sky" was sad because she lost her mother...I'll write more about it later, but this might be one of the most important factor of the story "AIR."

Anyway, according to the "Voice" in episode 12 (It was in the scene right after Misuzu's "Goal", with image of birth, space, dinosaur, and etc.), these "Yokuzinn" had a task to pass their "memory of the planet" from generation to generation... "from mother to her child."

Since they had a very strong power, humans used them as weapons in wars, and many people who got beaten by the power cast a spell on them. So that was the spell which was torturing Kana, Misuzu, and the other "girls in the sky", and all other people who loved by them...

Because the spell can be transferred to others by loving them, Kanna's mother didn't want her daughter to touch her...(For the same reason Misuzu can't make any friends...) But Kanna received love from her mother, and because she was loving Ryuya and Uraha, Ryuya was killed by the spell. (Uraha could manage to survive because of her power of "Houjutu"(a kind of magic I think...).)

When Kanna was trapped in the air by another spell which was cast by the priests (in the last episode with Kanna), another big problem occurred. The "memory of the planet" had to be transferred to someone after Kanna, but because she was the last "Yokuzinn", there would be no one who had enough memory capacity to receive it. So when the trap breaks and Kanna's soul is released from the sky, it will be transmigrated to a human girl, and the "memory of the planet" will kill her by overflowing her brain capacity...(She also gets the spell from the past so anyone whom she loves will be hurt...) After the girl is gone, her soul will be transmigrated to an another and kill her, and this cycle goes on...

Ryuya and Uraha realized this, but they didn't know what to do. So they decided to have a child and teach him "Houjutu", and hope that their descendants would find the solution...

This went on for 1000 years, until Yukito find Misuzu...

Misuzu found out that if she finishes watching all the dreams and reaches her own goal, she can save "the girl in the sky" from deep sadness (and no one will have to watch the dream again). So what she had to do was, try not to lost herself until her "Goal." The doll and Yukito helped her.

Misuzu's goal was her "mother"

As I mentioned before, the story "AIR" has a theme "mother and child." Both Kanna and Misuzu have same sadness of being parted with their mother forever. (Notice that Kano and Hijiri have the same sadness, and Minagi also experienced a similar feeling...) This might explain a reason why the first "girl in the sky" was so sad...

Let's think about Misuzu's case... Misuzu lost her mom when she was really small. There was Haruko, but she was trying not to be her real mom (until THAT summer...) That worked in good way because Haruko could be hurt by the spell if she really loved by Misuzu... Anyway, Haruko decided to love Misuzu as her daughter, and that meant Misuzu got her "mother" again. ..It's really simple, but it should be a really big thing for all "Girls in the sky"

The Two little kids at the end are the reincarnation

Yes, I think so. But actually, that boy is Sora... Well...Yukito=Sora=The boy...so isn't it the same thing?? I consider it as a happy ending...

The Last Episode

(I felt that the episode exists only to put the preview for SUMMER EDITION on air...) I heard that SUMMER EDITION will be like a comedy and it will be really fun!!

Oh, there is another news... The AIR MOVIE has ranked in 3rd movie of the nation that gathered the largest number of people in this season. (Although most people said it was really dumb...) This means that the movie mobilized all OTAKU who usually don't go out, or watch a movie in a theater...lol
