Hisami, or Hisa-chan as Anita dubs her, is a classmate of Anita's who becomes Anita's close friend. Hisa-chan is 12 years-old and in 7th grade. She is a member of the Library Club and wants to become a librarian. She doesn't have a mother or father which was why she buried herself in books. Anita is her first real friend. She loves reading and is a fan of Nenene. She also debuts with her first book at age 13 like Nenene.
Name
"hishi" means "water caltrop." A caltrop, also called "star thistle," is a type of flower which is a widely naturalized spiny European knapweed (Centaurea calcitrapa) with purple flowers. "ishi" means "stone."
"hisa" means "enduring, sustaining."
